In 1965 the cold war wast its height Britain was a part NATO - a group of 12 western countries who agreed to support each other in the face of a soviet attack. in retaliation the soviet union formed a pact with seven other communist countries. Europe was divided into two armed sides.
anxieties about nuclear war were common as both the soviet union and the Us were building up their armies and weapon.
in 1963 the cuban missile crisis took place over a terrifying week when the two countries took the world to the brink of a nuclear war.
Friday 9th December 2022 the avengers the town of no return
LO: to explore the narrative, character and appeal of season 4 episode 1
seed and peel suspected that something was odd. they sent spy but they went missing so they went to little bazeley they meet a guy on the train who is visting his brother. they went to a pub who the owner was odd, he offered them a place to stay for a couple of nights. there was dog noises coming from outside the land law said it was hunting.
during this time period the cold war was happening. it appeals to the audience because john seed is an older man therefore it will appeal to the older audience, emma is a young female who would appeal to the younger audience.
personal identity- the audience would related with the characters. back then were barely equaled. they would related to the upper class role models. identity with the english gents steed, cool, calm and unruffled. could identify with a tough, intelligent and equal hero- emma peel.
information- the cold war. they could gain information about the upper class. the world of spy
entertainment- the entertainment could be the characters, the escapist plot, enjoy the humour, how they escape with style and like the relationship between peel and steed. liking that there is different villain and having to defect them
social interaction- watching it as a family and discussing them as a family, talk to friends about it along with co-workers, build a personal relationship with the familiar character of steed and peel.
context- the town of no return
the concern at the time were the:
cold war
threat of nuclear war
threat of foreign invasion
espionage
a good scene that would reassure the audience is the scene where steed and peel was fighting the spies. this would help to reminds the audience that Britain will be okay and that they won WW2. The humour suggest that that they didn't take the threats seriously throughout the whole program. steed also won the fights but peel was smart would make the audience feel better. the enemy was represented as weak compared to steed. he fought 5 enemy by himself with a hat this would reassure the audience.

A new breed of tough, intelligent women
this can been seen in the episode by emma peel who is a strong, smart yet beautiful women.
in the scene where she is fighting of those men nearing the end you can see the strength that emma has. you can also see the intelligent where emma figure something out in the scene in the church. not only is she strong and smart she does it all in style.

Friday 13th January 2023 extract analysis
LO: to explore elements of media language and practice how to analysed an extract.
-they were a lot of shaking, this is to make you feel like you are there a little bit and to show the that its intense and the danger. it tracks mostly on emma peel, it is to show that we are suppose to be on her side and point of view shots to show her and the people around are that are dead.
-it was set in a country pub. a man playing a dart, the landlord was welcoming, the flapping sign outside, the wooden beam. the costume were formal whereas the others were simple and basic which show city vs country.
-the pace gotten faster to create a in inteatsed.
Friday 20th January 2023
parallel sound- its match the scene.
contrapuntal wound- does not match
when he pulls out a gun, it was low, loud and it shows badness, danger.
the choir was a diegetic sound, it help to shows that they were in a church.
the music stop when he said to peel that she was also an imposter. the reason is that this is important and to listen to the dialogue, also to show that the victor is a bad person and discover that he is not a victor.
how was camerawork used to create meaning?
-camera zooming in on the both of them,
-the man dying, high angle shot
-emma standing above him, low angle
-zoom in close up on gun, shows the danger.
-close up of the face that its show the expression. emma face at the end shows she trapped
-tracking shot where emma goes into the back room, which shows danger before emma knew before she knew
the camerawork that has been used is when the victor pulls out a gun, its zoomed closely on to the gun which create danger and that the victor isn't a good person and he is also an imposter. the mid show where emma and the victor are standing, they stay in the shot together, even when the camera was zooming on them both which create that they are a team, until emma leave the shot and that when we found out about the victor. At the end where emma is about to leave but stopped because the mid shot of the men where standing there with guns, which is creating that emma is trapped and shows the deep danger. the close up of emma face expression at the end is giving that emma knows that she is trapped but her face show a smudged look also sharing that she doesn't care, proud even. the tracking shot where emma goes into the back room, is showing that the audience know she in danger before she knows herself.

showing different ethnicity that are more accepted with different characters such as ryan and lino but still show racism, it is suggesting that people are still racism. the group are being represented as a negative things. their houses were messy, with empty bottle, footballs shirt, the England flag hanging out the window and the big dog. they are sharing anti-races messages.
the changes towards ethnicity has become more accept over time. you see people from different culture in the public and having Lino, Ryan and others in the policing programe shows that they have became much more accepting of them, however it still shows racism, they are shown as negative by the people who stabbed someone from a different religion and those people nearing the end of the episode.
people who are gay or bi are shown to become more of a positive thing whereas in the 1960s you wouldn't see someone who is gay and if you did it wouldn't be accepted like todays is. Jake being a openly gay man in the police work is sharing that its okay and positive thing.

the use of slow motion during the car chase. this is to create tension, the tension is from jake pov, this is to highlight that he is feeling fear and anxiety in that moment.
there is lots of cross cutting where they are eating in the cafe and when the robby was happen. that creates the timeline and sometimes to show humour and tension.
when the truck goes into the shop it looks like ctc, it to make it look like realism and for the police to look over. the pace of the scene speed up building up the tension,
