the lighten is low-key because its black and because of the contrast. he looking up like looking at the gods. 'lift' and 'arise' could mean that its holy.

Thursday 24th March 2022   media language
LO: to examine the use of media language in music videos

I am using sk8er boi and teenage dirtbag
Wheatus- teenage dirtbag
Avril lavigne- sk8er boi
Teenage dirtbag, sk8er boi
Pop, rock, pop-punk pop
14.12.2002- sk8er boi
June 20th 2000- teenage dirtbag

the make up is heavy around the eyes. its like pop-punk makeup. its isn't big. the hair is simple and basic. the costume is tomboyish which could link to the punk-pop.

the electric can link to the rock genre and smashing the onto the car can also link to rock.

the setting is in the street which could link to punk-pop. the lighting is high-key and the colour is basic and plan.

Thursday 7th April 2022
LO: to explore how camerawork is used to create meaning in the music video.

the costumes, props, the tone of the song, music and the video are related to the theme, pop-punk. the costume is slightly boyish, the props like the instruments and the skate board and the tone of the song is upbeat and pop. this all can be related to the theme of the song. the music talks about a skater boy which can also links with the pop-punk.

Avril Lavigne and her friends are dressed like punks. this is achieved by using the spiky bracelet, the tie and the hat on backwards  . this could suggest to the audience that they could be trouble makers and are into music.

in Avril Lavigne's music video, it is set in a street with tall buildings around them. awe known this as we seen shots of buildings, streetlights and lots of people. in my opinion the video is set here because the street is usually busy and its a good place to grab people attention.

the costume in teenage dirtbag is representing the stereotype of high school. you got the jocks, greeks, the popular kids and others. The character/artist costume is nerdy and this tell us that the character isnt popular and is invisible. later on the the video the character/artist and his crush are dressed up in fancy outfits. His and his crush are dressed up like that because they are going to prom together.

S-shot
M-movement
A-angle

Thursday 28th April 2022
LO: to explore how camera work is used to create meaning in music video.

first shot is a POV shot.
this show that she is the person that everyone looking at, she the star power

second is a long shot.
this is used to show the location.

third shot is a high angle
this shot is to show her power and her strength, its to show how popular she is and how important she is.

fourth shot is a low angle.
this angle is to show that everyone looks up at them and it is to show their domination.

firth shot is a dutch angle.

1. dolly
2. pedestal
3. track
4. pan
5. tilt
6. roll

close up shot

long shot

dutch angle

low-angle shot

pan 00:08 - 00:10

the camera movement in this music video, energetic, dizzy, hyper, snappy, fast.

the camera movement in sk8er boi is hyper. for example at one point in the video when the artist is smashing the gruiter. the camera movement fits the tone of the video of the song

Thursday 5th May 2022     Sound and Editing
LO: to explore how sound and editing are used to create meaning in music videos.

Sound
diegetic and non-diegetic

Diegetic- sounds that the characters can hear.
Non-diegetic- sounds that the audience can hear only.

Sk8er boi
At the start of the music video its a diegetic. you hear spray paint and a zipper of the bag.
its help knowing where it set and where you are.
at the end you can hear the sirens, its fade into a diegetic sound.

Teenage dirtbag
At the start you hear the car hitting the bike. its diegetic.
When the band is preforming it meant look diegetic.
When the female singer started singing it also meant to look diegetic.

Editing
Cuts, special effects, transition, continuity, shot duration, pace and rhythm.

Linear and non-linear

Linear- events are edited/ presented in chronological order
(beginning-middle-end)
Non-linear- out of order editing, no clear distinction of time
Events are cut up and rearranged. (unclear beginning-middle-end )

Pace
The pace of editing (the amount of 'cuts' we see has a huge impact on how an audience react to a media text.
More cuts= quicker pace= build up of excitement, tension, adrenaline for the audience.

Sk8er boi is edited in linear because there is a clear native. It has a faster pace because the song faster.

Teenage dirtbag is edited in linear because its has a clear native. It has a slow place because the song is slower.

Explain one way in which music video use media language to differ from each other.
Refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music video you have studied to support your answer.

editing-
sound- there more diegetic sound in sk8er boi.
mise-en-scene-
camerawork- lots of handheld in sk8er boi.

st8er boi has more sound then teenage dirtbag, st8er boi has more diegetic sound. in the first few seconds of the music video you hear the sound of spay paint and a zipper of a bag and at the end you hear the sound of sirens. in teenage dirtbag you could argue that the female singer is a diegetic it meant to look like she singing.  stater boi camera work is has lots of handheld.

Thursday 12th may 2022   representation
LO: to explore how representation are constructed in music video.

Thursday 19th May 2022

sexual objectification in the media.
music videos. hiphop, rap videos are common.
KFC chicken dale mother day ad.

sexual objectification of women or the sexual objectification of mens more likely to appear in the media.

why you you think this?

is it ever justifiable?
no even if its done in a humour way people still can get offended and its can reflect on someone mental health. as long as it made clear that its justifiable.

skater boi

the man dropping down looks excited and thats appeal for the younger audience.
the fast pace montage creates a youthful and exiting feel. a man going through a hole creates a edgy and slightly criminal representation.
jumping in to the shot she looks exciting.
rebellce doesn't care.
the tie being loose and half undone signifies that she a rebel and a rule breaker.
biking in the school suggest that she doesn't follow the rule.
the wide shot shows thats she popular
close up of the band members playing instruments are showing punk
the police adds to her representation to a rule breaker.

teenage dirtbag

two people in the music video has people from America  pie.
the hight key light and slow morothna sows the the female character is the dream girl.
walking in the crowed make him look like he doesn't fit in with them. t
he use of the loser sign representation bullying. the track out shows she weak.
the wide angle representation his loneliness when she turns around in disgust its show that she actually a good person.
the shallow soft scene make its look romantic.
the fairy lights make its look like dream and that the girl is the fancy person that men dream of.
the video shows the theme of not fitting.

Thursday 26th 2022
LO: to explain the construction of representation in music videos.

how do your chosen music video support or challenge van zoonen's theory of patriarchy?

van zoonen support the girl in teenage dirtbag, she caring and kind but it also challenge the theory because at first she seem mean and the stereotype of a teenage hight school mean girl but she does get the boy attention which support the theory. the males also support the stereotype because the bully are big and strong. the female is objective. the main singer challenge the theory because he is weak and the loner.

skater boi challenge the theory because she a rebel and a trouble maker, she wearing more of boyish clothes which challenge the stereotype. the police man support because they mostly males and you see a pretty girl in a car.

The stereotype in the teenage dirtbag music video is repsented by the female singer. The stereotype for females is nice, caring and kind. in the music video we see this when the female character walks away from the bullies who was throwing food at the main character, she also the dream girl that everyone likes which connect to the stereotypes, the way she dresses in the scene when its came to the prom made the girl look soft, innocent, kind and caring which links to the stereotype.
The male stereotype is strong, manly and doesn't care about anything. In teenage dirtbag the male character doesn't not fit the stereotype. he is loner, weak and a bit of a geek. in the scene where he getting food thrown at him shows the weak side.
In the skater boi music video the lead singer is  wearing boyish clothing which does not fit the stereotype but getting the boys attention does fit the stereotype. in the scene when the boy was holding the camera he looks at her like she the most beautiful person ever.  The police coming are mainly males which fits the stereotype.
